Pollution Prevention Manual for Lithographic Printers
A comprehensive pollution prevention manual is available for lithographic printers.
The IWRC prepared the Pollution Prevention for Lithographic Printers cover of Print Manual manual as the first product of an ongoing process of examining pollution prevention strategies within the printing industry.
The manual focuses on lithographic printing, the largest area in the graphic arts industry. It covers prepress operations, makeready, inks, dampening systems, emerging technologies, in-plant recycling programs and includes in-house studies in each of these areas to prove actual effectiveness.
Compliance with ever-changing environmental regulations that potentially affect printers can be expensive. Effective pollution prevention practices and technologies can help printers limit or avoid some of the expenses.
The relationship between pollution prevention and environmental regulations is covered in the manual, including air emissions, wastewater and hazardous waste requirements.
The potential benefits of pollution prevention include bottom line savings, less time spent assuring compliance, decreased likelihood of site clean-up and increased future property values, on-time delivery and quality work, decreased workers compensation claims and sick time, and increased worker productivity. The manual is 68 pages long.

Environmental Audit Manual-CD-ROM

Environmental Audit CDThe Iowa Waste Reduction Center developed the Iowa Environmental Audit Training Manual to help small business utilize the Iowa Self Audit Law. On April 16, 1998 Iowa passed a law on environmental self-assessment and audit privilege, known as the Environmental Audit Privilege and Immunity Act and on December 8, 1998 Iowa promulgated a rule on environmental self-audits. This rule provides that under certain conditions, facilities may conduct voluntary evaluations of their operations to determine compliance or noncompliance with environmental regulations and be afforded some protection that the information derived cannot be used against them.

The manual covers the terms, procedures and limitations of the Iowa Self-Audit Law. The manual then describes how to conduct an audit from audit preparation through the closing meeting. The manual provides a description of the major regulatory areas such as the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, air emissions regulations, used oil, and others. This manual is not intended to be an environmental regulatory training guide. Finally the appendices provide checklists for each of the major regulatory areas that individuals can utilize in facility audits.

Vehicle Maintenance Curriculum CoverPollution Prevention Curriculum for Vehicle Maintenance
The purpose of this curriculum is to assist automotive technology programs in training vehicle maintenance technicians at the high school, community college and technical school level.

The PCVM is divided into thirteen separate modules designed to augment the existing vehicle maintenance curriculum. This unique design allows each instructor the flexibility to adapt the desired information into their existing course work. There are four parts to the curriculum: teacher edition, student edition (these links are downloadable with Adobe Reader), test packet and transparency packet (MS Power Point slides).

The primary focus of the PPCVM is pollution prevention techniques for all possible waste streams in the vehicle maintenance industry. Each module specifies when tests should be given, when each transparency should be utilized and suggested activities. A copy may be obtained by contacting Sue Schauls at the Iowa Waste Reduction Center.

The material was also converted to WebCT, an internet-based training forum that is used by community colleges.
